Ø      Approximately 1.5 hours from Charlotte, NC,

Ø      Approximately 1 hour from Gastonia, NC,

Ø      Approximately 2 hours from Spartanburg, SC,

Ø      Approximately 3 hours from Columbia, SC.

REGISTRATION:  The registration table will be located inside the school at the double doors closest to the baseball field at the lower end of the bus parking lot.  Please send a representative to the table when you first arrive (see map).  Workers will be ready and stamp the hands of your student on the bus when you first arrive.  Please arrive in time to be “on time” for your warm-up.

GUIDES:  Your guides will join you at the registration table.

CHAPERONS: Badges will be provided for your chaperons—one for every 10 students.  Badges will also be provided for your bus drivers (based on your registration) and pit crew (5).  Any additional chaperons/adults must purchase a ticket.  Please don’t ask the Booster parents to stamp adults hands.

DRESSING FACILITIES/REST ROOMS: Dressing facilities are available if you need them.  We will be using classrooms close to the registration table.  Rest rooms are located near the registration table.  Again, enter through the double doors closest to the baseball field.  Please ask your students to respect the property of Foard High School.

WARM-UP AREAS: There are three areas.  Your guide will direct you to your assigned area.  Please use your assigned warm-up area.  Please do not “find you own spot” and begin to warm-up.  Class 1A/2A/3A bands will have 40 minutes to warm-up.  Class 4A/5A/6A will have 45 minutes to warm-up.  At the end of this time, your guide will direct you to the stadium.  Please be lined up and ready to exit the warm-up area on time.

There will be a water table in a shaded area for your band after their performance.

Warm-up areas will be: A—in the rectangular parking lot between the bus lot and the front parking lot, B—in the front parking lot behind the orange cones/plastic tape and C—the grass front yard nearest the new “main entrance.”  You will find a map enclosed in this mail out that will help.  Please warm-up in your assigned warm-up area!

Guards may warm-up in the school’s front yard (the Foard Band practice field).  It is next to Warm-up Area “C.”  Because this area is in direct sight of the stadium, only guards may use it and these groups need to monitor their volume.  Some of the practice field will be used in Warm-up Area “C.”  Cars will also be parked on some of the practice field.  Therefore, the Foard Band practice field is not available for silent marching practice.  Sorry.

WARM-UP AREAS (more):

Ø      Directors, please be professional and use the warm-up area assigned to you.

Ø      Directors, PLEASE DO NOT warm-up your band in the bus parking areas.

Ø      Please do not allow your students to practice individually or in small groups in the parking area.

PERFORMANCE AREA: The performance field is standard size with High School hash marks.  There are no boundary regulations (please use common sense) or penalties.  Bands will enter and exit from the audience’s/judge’s left.

PERFORMANCES: Class 1A/2A/3A bands will have 15 minutes to enter the field, perform and exit the field.  Class 4A/5A/6A bands will have 20 minutes to enter the field, perform and exit the field.  Please set up for your performance in an expeditious manner.  You may do a short warm-up on the field.  Please enter the field to taps.  You may exit the field to a cadence.

PERFORMANCE PROCEDURE:

Ø      As the band starts to enter the field (touches the playing field), the announcer will begin read the Press Box Form.  Feel free to bring or send your own print out.

Ø      After the band is totally set up, the announcer will say “Drum Major(s), is your band ready?” The drum major(s) will salute.  Then the announcer will say “__________ Band, you may enter the field in competition.”

Ø      When the band is finished and coming off the field, the announcer will say something like “Another round of applause for the _______________ Marching ___________’s.”

Ø      Past awards may be read as the band is leaving the stadium.

Ø      Being sensitive, courteous and fair to on coming bands, once a band’s performance is over, the band exiting will do only that—exit the field to taps or cadence.  The band exiting the field WILL NOT perform any other music, tags, codas, cheers, jams, spirit chants, etc.  Please exit the field—your time is up.  Penalty—five points deducted from the band’s final overall score.

MISSING YOUR TIME SLOT: A band that misses their time slot will be worked in as soon as and as best as possible.

POWER and ELECTRONICS:

Ø      Electricity is not available on the field/pit. You must bring your own. Use at your own risk!

Ø      All electronically produced music must be “live,” in “real time,” and be performed by a student.  Please do not use prerecorded music.

Ø      Narration and sound effects may be prerecorded and used without penalty.

RESTRICTIONS:

Ø      No pyrotechnics will be allowed nor will fireworks, firing of weapons or the use of any hazardous materials that could endanger the stadium surface, participants, or spectators.

Ø      No materials that would disrupt the scheduled flow of the event will be permitted.

Ø      No animals will be allowed as part of performances.

Ø      No band may perform a routine that requires the stadium lights to be turned off.

Ø      No powder or any material that might damage the field or leave excessive residue (paper wrappings, etc.) will be permitted.

Ø      No band or portion of any band may use the performance area for practice during the week prior to the event.

Ø      Again, being sensitive, courteous and fair to on coming bands, once a band’s performance is over, the band exiting will do only that—exit the field to taps or cadence.  The band exiting the field WILL NOT perform any other music, tags, codas, cheers, jams, spirit chants, etc.  Please exit the field—your time is up.  Penalty—five points deducted from the band’s final overall score.

Any violation of the restrictions regarding hazardous materials or illegal use of equipment will be penalized to a maximum penalty of disqualification at the discretion of the contest director.

SEATING: Please ask your band members to sit on the away side or at the extreme far ends of the home side as a courtesy to the paying spectators.  This will especially be an issue near the end of the contest before the awards ceremony.  Thank you for your help with this situation.

WEATHER:  The contest will be held rain or shine (or heat!).  The home stands face the afternoon sun.  Please prepare your people.  People have gotten sun burned in the past.

VIDEOS:  No one will be allowed into the press box to video.  A/C power will not be available.  The Foard Music Boosters will be providing you a video of your performance.

PHOTOGRAPHERS:  A photographer will be here from The Photo Imaging Company taking candid still shots during each band performance.  The Photo Imaging Company will have a tent inside the stadium for picture viewing and ordering.

FOOD:  The Music Boosters will be selling food and concessions all day—hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken tenders, pizza, drinks (water and sodas), nachos, nachos w/chili, candy, snack foods and deserts will be available.

Please notify me ASAP via email if you plan to arrive before or at the start of the contest to eat from the concession stand.

FOOD FROM THE OUTSIDE:

Ø      Please tell your fans that coolers and other carryall bags that contain food and beverages are not allowed in the stadium.  This is a Foard HS administration policy.  They will be asked to leave these items at the gate.

Ø      The Foard Band Classic is a fundraiser for the Foard Band.  Please either eat at the concession stand or eat in a restaurant off campus.  Please do not bring food and feed your band in the parking lot.  Please refrain, if possible, from feeding your parents in the parking lot as well. Thanks for not feeding your folks on our campus.

HOPITALITY TENT: There will be a hospitality tent located near the main entrance of the stadium for all directors, assistant directors and band staff.  No chaperons please.

OTHER:  Band and guard t-shirts and other items from the Guard Closet (Charlotte, NC) will be on sale.
